The auction closed on May 10, 2012 at 19:49:39 PDT with a closing bid of US $99,900.00, but to spite what seemed to be a record breaking auction with thousands of views per minute it wasn’t enough to meet the owners reserve and so the floating home remains with them for now.

Posting on their facebook page the owners said “Our intent is still to sell the float home, but now we will try some new avenues. It has still been a highlight of our lives to this point with the response we’ve received. Who knows where Plan B will take us.” It’s unknown at the moment what their “plan B” is, but we’ll follow them with interest.

With a little over six days remaining, the eBay auction for the float home used to film the hit TV show MacGyver has made the number 1 viewed auction on the site with a staggering 111,831 views which continues to climb by the minute.

An eBay representative told the owners during a phone conversation “In my 3 years I’ve never seen anything come close to this” After hearing this news owner Dave Edmonson immediately decided to contact the Guinness Book of World records to see if they had a category they could use. Presently they do not have one so the owners are now starting a campaign to create a new “Most views on a single item on eBay” category.

The floating home, which according to the owners is different to a houseboat (as they wrongly called it in the show) because a houseboat has a motor or other mode of self-propulsion, was used as the home for the lead character in ABC’s hit 80′s TV show ‘MacGyver’ for the majority of it’s 7 year run and most fans of the show consider the float home to be as much a part of the character as the Swiss Army Knife he is famous for always carrying. In spite of the world wide iconic status of MacGyver and the die-hard fandom the show still enjoys, the owners are still “overwhelmed by the response to our auction so far.”

Series co-writer Tony Lee says they decided to rescheduling to the New York Comic-Con to allow new artist Will Sliney time to “settle in” after the departure of Becky Cloonan from the team. “Having it at NYCC means that we can have Will over as well for a signing” Lee went on to say.

“The response was incredible,” said Tony Lee, co-writer of the miniseries, “and the amazing thing was that pretty much every person that applied and drew a concept for us was a massive fan of the show.”

With the winner decided by a judging panel including MacGyver series creator Lee David Zlotoff and Image Publisher Eric Stephenson, in the end Irish artist Will Sliney was given the position. An already internationally established artist, Sliney is no stranger to licensed comics, having already worked on Farscape for BOOM! Studios and Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the UK for Panini.

A lifelong MacGyver fan who has named the iconic character as one of his ‘Eighy Awesome Eighties Action Heroes’, an ongoing art challenge he has on his blog at http://sliney.blogspot.com/ Sliney will work with the creative team in redesigning MacGyver for the twenty first century. Becky Cloonan will still be involved as design consultant and cover artist for the five book series.

MacGyver: Fugitive Gauntlet will be released by Image Comics, and the first issue will début at the San Diego Comic Con in 2012.

The world needs MacGyver according to its creator Lee David Zlotoff. In an interview given earlier this year he said “I am convinced that, given the current pressures on national and global resources—like food, water, energy, etc.—certainly this country, if not the world– needs a hero like MacGyver now.”

The interview covered many aspects of MacGyver from how the character was conceived, through to how Zlotoff came to own the movie rights and on to revealing new details about the plot of the upcoming movie which he hopes to be in production next year. “The current story we’re working on is how MacGyver came to be MacGyver.” Zlotoff said. ” What we call a creation story, but contemporary. It’s as if there has never been such a character. What you might call rebooting the character. Kind of like they did with Spiderman and Batman.” He went on to say that the new MacGyver will be just as familiar with today’s technology as the old MacGyver was with the technology of his day. He also said that he is hopeful that RDA will agree to do a cameo appearance in the movie, but stressed that this was still is discussions.

Tony Lee, the writer of the recently announced MacGyver comic book series, has posted an article on his blog explaining how the comic book came to be.

In his article he proudly boasts of being a huge MacGyver fan and adds that he has a MacGyver t-shirt along with the full series on DVD as well as a Phoenix Foundation MacGyver ID badge which he wore as part of a MacGyver costume for a fancy dress party.

He also explains a bit more of the plot and goes to lengths to assure us this is not a MacGruber like approach, but a genuine attempt to bring MacGyver back.

According to a report today from the “Comic Book Resources” website, MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff has teamed up with Doctor Who comic writer Tony Lee and artist Becky Cloonan for a project to create a 5 issue comic book mini-series by Image Comics called ”MacGyver: Fugitive Gauntlet”.

According to Tony Lee, Zlotoff has been involved in the whole process from the very start. He’s had his hand in every aspect of the comic books creation.

Lee has also indicated that this will be the same MacGyver we know from the TV show and will have the same likeness to Richard Dean Anderson.

“We were happy to do whatever Lee suggested, and he was actually very interested in modernizing the character in the same way that Superman or Batman are ageless,” Lee said. “It’s the same MacGyver but in a more contemporary setting. But don’t worry, he’ll still be creating his gadgets. Lee’s even convinced John [Potter], the guy who created the original ideas, to come on board, and we’ll be throwing him a wealth of problems to solve.”

When asked about the plot CBR reports that Lee was very reluctant to divulge much about the story, but did manage to pry some details from him.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but there’s a gauntlet that MacGyver has to run, and he does it as a fugitive, hence the title,” Lee said. “Let’s just say that someone with an axe to grind decides to play a game with him. He has to live out a week while every hitman in town is after him. A seven million dollar bounty is on his head, and every day it drops by a million. So the hit men have it in their best interests to kill him quick, and he has it in his best interest to run out the clock. But at the same time, he has to find out why this person wants him dead and what the true story is here.”

Lee also indicated that they have used their own new logo, mainly due to copyright on the original logo, but also because they considered that if they are modernizing MacGyver, they might as well do everything.

According to the Aviation Safety Network the Douglas C-47A-90-DL plane, known by fans of the show as Jack Dalton’s plane throughout the 3rd season, crashed into a mountain while on a flight to return doctors from the Christian Agua Viva missionary group back home from their relief work in Playa Grande on Nov 1, 1998.

The crash report states that the plane was flying through thick fog and rain, generated by tropical depression Mitch and was relying on instruments only when it crashed into the mountain killing 11 of it’s 18 occupants. The plane was damaged beyond repair and subsequently written off.

There was apparently no flight plan filed.

It was with great interested that we noted today on IMDb Pro the appearance of Larry Romano as a cast member of the new MacGyver movie. There is no role name listed, so we can only speculate as to which part he will play in the movie; Nor was there any indication of how up to date the information is. We have been unsuccessful to date in our attempts to contact either producers or the respective production companies regarding this or any other news they can give us.

Based on the hit 80′s action/adventure show of the same name, the movie is now listed with a 2013 release date so we still have at least two years to wait, but this could be seen as a good thing in that it shows the movie makers are willing to spend the time to make sure the movie stays true to the original MacGyver character.
