| Dave Ryerson is an international criminal
with crime syndicate connections. He had been deported from the United States, which he
blamed MacGyver for and according to MacGyver wasn't even "meant to be in this
hemisphere unless he was in jail". He had allied himself with General Antonio Vasquez, the
military head of the secret police in San Sebastian, Central America, who was
planning to overthrow the government. Vasquez had his army behind him but still needed the
weapons, which Ryerson was dealing to provide for him. He had planned a meeting with
Vasquez to seal the deal, but the meeting was interrupted when photojournalist Kate Connally and MacGyver were
caught taking photos of them. They were able to escape but Vasquez immediately put the
country into military “lock down” to prevent them from leaving with their
photographic evidence. Ryerson was able to convince the General that they would be able to
capture MacGyver and Kate as his army continued to search for the pair, but an unconvinced
Vasquez promised Ryerson that if they escaped he wouldn’t depart him, he would
instead destroy him. In spite of the militaries best efforts MacGyver and Kate were able
to escape over the Mexican boarder with the photos and story, and Vasquez kept his
promise to Ryerson.
